Prehistoric Monster Syndrome
I was glad that we were able to read an article that focused on the nonfictional account of what going through PMS is actually like. Women who batter their children and husbands? Emotional waste-cases? Apparently some people missed one or two health classes.
I knew that if I types PMS into youtube it would come up with some very interseting results on what people thought about this process. This video was made to mimic the type of videos that were being made by the government and various orginizations during the 1950's. As we talked about in class, society has been constantly trying to "pretty up" the menstrual cycle. By displaying pictures and videos of women going completely bonkers during their menstrual cycle, the media and society was hoping that women would make a change and not let their emotions run wild anymore during this time. By making women look like such animals, they would hopefully change their behavior. The invention of tampons and pads that came with scents such as "fresh garden" or various other scents, was also just another way to pretty up the menstrual cycle. Honestly, it is a bit ridiculous the lengths that society has gone to to cover up the menstrual cycle and make it more hidden.
